Background

Ascendis Health is a health and wellness investment holding company which markets and distributes a portfolio of leading brands, products and medical devices.

Established in 2008 and listed on the General Segment of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (initially listed in 2013), the Group has complemented its organic growth strategy by acquiring a diverse range of healthcare businesses, strong brands and agencies.

The Company operates in two segments (Consumer Health and Medical Devices) through seven operating companies.

Consumer Health

(wellness, health supplements and speciality ingredients)

Consumer Health comprises three independently run consumer-focused businesses targeted at different segments of the value chain namely: Ascendis Consumer Brands (health and wellness branded products), Chempure (speciality ingredients), and The Compounding Pharmacy of South Africa (compounded medicines and supplements).

Medical Devices

(medical devices distribution)

Ascendis’ four medical devices businesses maintain long-standing relationships and hold exclusive distribution agreements with major multinational original equipment manufacturers. These partnerships allow Medical Devices to supply surgical, diagnostic and medical equipment that enhance patient outcomes. These four businesses are:

• The Scientific Group (clinical diagnostics, life sciences and point-of-care)
• Surgical Innovations (surgical and acute care)
• Ortho-Xact (orthopaedic trauma and limb, reconstructive and sports medicine)
• Cardaxes (cardiovascular and respiratory)
